CONTEMPORY ART GALLERY WALK

Contemporary Art Gallery Walk followed by Lunch Discussion at Avenue Restaurant Lead by Art Critic and Curator, Hugh Pilkington.

Following on from our Summer Art Walk, this tour will cover a wide range of contemporary art and unpack the strategies of the market-makers in contemporary art.  We will look at the ‘Primary Market’ – galleries bringing new work or the work of living artists to the public and the ‘Secondary Market’ – galleries trading in older work and work with a market or historic provenance. We shall visit the galleries that look after artist estates and explore the way auction houses are now operating in the market.  We will discuss the similarities between the financial markets (regulated) and the art market (unregulated).  Most importantly, we shall view a wide range of contemporary art and discuss both it’s qualities and uses.
