Early Stage Investing for Social Impact

How do social investors gain financial return whilst also making social and environmental impact?

Our members Suzanne Biegel and Maggie Loo, two of London's experienced social impact investors, will share their experiences of social impact investing, from angel investing to venture. Topics will include:
  • Where is the value in socially motivated investing, in comparison to traditional angel and early-stage venture investing?
  • What are the characteristics of social investors?
  • What do social investors look for in entrepreneurs?
  • How do social investors find impact investing opportunities?

You will also have the opportunity to hear the perspective of two social entrepreneurs:
  • Abhi Naha, Founder of Zone V, creating mobile handsets/apps for the blind and visually impaired and aging markets
  • Virginia Gardiner, CEO of Loowatt, a revolutionary waterless toilet system that produces energy and fertilizer

The panel will include:
  • Suzanne Biegel (Wharton '84), Senior Advisor at ClearlySo, Catalyst at Large
  • Maggie Loo (CBS '05), Business Development Manager at Bridges Venture
  • Virginia Gardiner, CEO of Loowatt
  • Abhi Naha, Founder of Zone V
Volunteers: Meeta Gournay, Emmanuel Léonard, Nicholas Lofberg, Suzanne Biegel, Thomas Cuvelier, Matt Kingswood.

Our gratitude to Pictet for hosting the event and the Wharton Angel Network for contributing to the organisation.
