FinTech Panel: Disintermediation in Financial Services

Join alumni for a panel and networking event around FinTech, for a discussion of “Disintermediation in financial services: peer to peer lending, funding, remitting & donating” 

CrowdBank, Ratesetter, and Worldremit and Bain in a conversation moderated by FinTech investor and advisor Anthemis around the following topics:
  • Are peer to peer lending/ payments/ funding a serious competitor to traditional banking?
  • Where will banks sit in the new payments ecosystem?
  • What are the costs and benefits to the consumer? Is there enough regulation to protect consumers?
  • Panel introduction by Bain & Co.: Remarks on the state and future of the financial services industry 

Event Panellists: 
  • Ayan Mitra – CEO and Founder of CrowdBnk – CrowdBnk is an equity crowdfunding platform offering start-ups and SMEs an efficient and transparent way to raise growth capital. He has over 15 years of experience in leading teams to design and implement complex consumer platforms for banks (First Direct), retailers (Marks & Spencer) and telecom companies (Freeserve, Orange and Everything Everywhere). Ayan's passion for the concept of crowdfunding grew whilst he was studying for an MBA, which he completed at London Business School in 2010. As CrowdBnk’s CEO, Ayan oversees all aspects of the company, from technical development to legal compliance.

  • Ismail Ahmed – CEO and Founder of WorldRemit - Ismail has more than 20 years’ experience in international remittances as an academic researcher, compliance adviser and consultant for money transfer companies. Previously he was a compliance advisor at the United Nations Remittance Programme setup to help East African money transfer companies to comply with stringent new anti-money laundering regulations. He has an MSc with distinction, a PhD in economics from the University of London and an Executive MBA from London Business School.

  • Peter Behrens – Co-Founder and COO of RateSetter - Peter trained as a lawyer at Ashurst, before leaving to join RBS as a banker. As COO, Peter leads the business development of RateSetter as well being responsible for the company's day-to-day operations. "The success of peer-to-peer feels inevitable, the internet is breaking down all sorts of barriers and now it has given us an opportunity to change the way people interact with the banking system the decision to use peer-to-peer finance has become an easy one to make for those who take the time to consider it." Peter sits on the Board of RateSetter.

  • Udayan Goyal – Founder, Anthemis Group - Udayan is a keen proponent of technology driven reformation in banking and financial services and has exceptional domain expertise in this space. He is one of the founders of the digital financial services company Anthemis Group and was a seed investor in (Bank)Simple. He serves as a Board Director with Moven and Zyfin and also advises several digital financial startups, including those in the Anthemis Group portfolio. Udayan is a much sought after commentator on digital finance and curates the very popular “Future of Money” annual session at Innotribe, SIBOS.

  • Jayne Zecha – Principal at Bain, member of the Bain Technology practice with a focus on Fintech who recently co-authored Bain’s point of view on trends in mobile payments and who has worked with many banks / payments companies over the years.
