Please join fellow CBS Alumni for a topical discussion about the current situation and tensions in the Middle East. The speakers are: Emile Hokayem specializes in political and conflict analysis, including the wars in Syria, Iraq and Yemen and the relations between Iran and its Arab neighbours; the rise of non-state actors, including jihandi groups and Hizbullah; national security and defence policy in the Arab states; and the interests and involvement of external actors in the Middle East.. Alia Moubayed has over 25 years of experience spanning Emerging Markets fixed income research, government, international financial institutions and think tanks. She was the Director of the Geo-economics and Strategy Program at the International Institute for Strategic Studies, after spending 9 years as MENA Chief Economist at Barclays focusing on economics and geopolitics of the Middle East. Before that, she worked as Senior economist at the World Bank. Alia and Emile will discuss current geopolitical and geoeconomics trends in the Middle East. They will examine the rising tensions between the US, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Iran, and the state of regional competition that is having ripple effects from Yemen and the Horn of Africa to Algeria and Turkey. And they will analyze how the Gulf states deploy political and economic tools for influence. Following the discussion and Q&A, there will be a networking reception with drinks. I hope you can join us for this topical discussion. |
