THE 'STATE OF THE ARTS' IN THE UK


​Join CBS and INSEAD alumni over drinks and canapés as we hear from leaders from across the arts and cultural sector on the challenges and opportunities shaping the arts today, including how institutions, funders, and policymakers are balancing cultural integrity with commercial realities. 
 
Find out what the future holds for and how to involved with one of the UK’s most vital industries, while also exploring the innovative Gazelli Art House exhibition, Subject to Change, bringing together nine internationally recognised artists working critically with AI processes including algorithms, datasets, and machine learning.

Speakers:
  • Tim Reeve, CBE – Deputy Director and Chief Operating Officer, Victoria and Albert Museum.  Deputy Director and COO of the V&A since 2013, Tim leads the strategic and operational overview of all museum activities. Tim has led the development of V&A East Museum and Storehouse in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, East London and chairs the East Bank Board. Before joining the V&A, Tim was Director of Historic Properties at English Heritage.
  • Bernard Donoghue, OBE – Chair, Director, Trustee and Ambassador for Tourism, Heritage & Culture Organisations. Bernard is a policy analyst, lobbyist and strategist working at national CEO level representing the UK’s most iconic and important cultural, heritage, artistic and tourism organisations. With over 30 years board experience working with some of the UK's best-known and well-regarded NGO's, he has worked across a range of organisations, including government, government agencies, EU and UN political institutions and charities. Bernard is a sought-after and highly rated public speaker on board governance, leadership skills, fundraising,strategy, stakeholder management, lobbying and public affairs.
  • Clare Gough – Director, The Garfield Weston Foundation.  Clare was recently appointed Director of GWF, a major grant-maker which donates ~£100m/year to diverse charities across the UK. In her previous role as Director of Pitzhanger Manor, she led the restoration of Sir John Soane’s home. Acclaimed exhibitions in the new gallery include Anish Kapoor, Julian Opie, and Grayson Perry. Previously Director of Communications at the National Gallery, Clare pioneered taking arts exhibitions live to cinema, including David Bowie (V&A) and Leonardo Live (National Gallery). Clare started her career at McKinsey.
Moderator: Dr. Anna Dempster – Cambridge Fellow, Gallery Owner, Charity Founder
Anna is a Fellow at Wolfson College and sits on the Arts Committee, informing the College’s programme of exhibitions, events and acquisitions. She also supports emerging contemporary artists through her charity. Anna was previously Head of Academic Programmes at the Royal Academy of Arts, London and was Associate Professor at Sotheby’s Institute of Art, responsible for the Art Business, Finance and Management Unit.

Founded in 2010 by Mila Askarova, Gazelli Art House represents an international roster of pioneering artists – from key players at the heart of Post-War movements such as Pop Art and Abstract Expressionism, to the creative minds currently rethinking art in the digital world of the 21st century. Gazelli Art House champions the work of artists who challenge their times through experimentation in a variety of media.
