Remarks by Christian Bergmann ’92, Managing Partner, Alegro Capital Chris joined Alegro as a Founding Partner when the Firm was relaunched in 2006. Previously, he held various positions in the M&A department at Morgan Stanley in New York, Frankfurt, Munich and London. In London, he was a Managing Director where he was the day-to-day senior relationship banker with prominent private equity clients such as Apax, Bain, Candover, Carlyle, Charterhouse, CD&R, KKR and others. He opened the Munich, Germany office for Morgan Stanley and led a 10-person team originating and executing advisory and financing business from 2001 to 2003. His office completed over 10 transactions with clients such as Beiersdorf, Escada, Linde and Constantin Film, amongst others. As head of Morgan Stanley's German Business Development Group, Frankfurt (1997-2000), Christian worked with a number of DAX 30 companies and completed significant transactions with clients such as Metalgesellschaft, Tengelmann and Volkswagen. He started at Morgan Stanley in New York in the M&A division focusing on Healthcare transactions. He completed 50+ transactions over the course of his 11 year period at Morgan Stanley. Chris also worked at Salomon Brothers and Lehman Brothers as an Associate in New York between 1991 and 1994. As Angel Investor and Chairman of the Supervisory Board (Aufsichtsrat) of Element 5 AG, Christian built a $12.5m revenue, 115-person internet company, completed 3 venture capital financing rounds with 3i / Earlybird / IKB and later sold the company for $125m to Digital River, Inc in 2004. Chris served in the United States Navy as a Tactical Action Officer on board the USS McClusky (FFG-41), San Diego, California, from 1987-1990. He completed two deployments to the Persian Gulf during the Iran / Iraq War, participating in Operations Earnest Will, Praying Mantis and Nimble Archer. Chris is an Honours Graduate with an MBA from Columbia University, where he was an International Fellow. He completed his undergraduate degree from Cornell University in European History, where he was elected a member of Sphinx Head Society. He holds dual US and Swiss citizenship and speaks fluent German. |
